End of September Update

This summer I used the Step-and-Repeat process in ID but other than that have basically forgotten how to use it. So I am relearning a bunch about how to place an image as well as editing them in PS to get them ready. It is good practice.

I think that Digital Blues will be the place to go to for the print project.

It looks like Student Art League will be having a show in April. This is really exciting as well because it will be ten times better than the Honors House Show because there will be consistent hours and it will be about a month instead of a week.

Last week I designed fliers for the Mexican Mural Show and Lecture by Stevon Lucero.

Project Updates

Things are starting to make a bit more sense. The project for Georgia is coming along. The files for the video and catalog are now in one spot, instead of three CDs. Once those two are finished, I will relax a little bit. The transition was rough. Soon all of the files that I need will be on one flash drive.

This week I also talked to another client. Kate’s business helps people rewrite their stories, essays, and books. She was trying to combine two clip art images for her website. I redrew them; I think we will be editing the drawing into a logo of some sort.  She needed to drawing for her web designer for the next day.

Round Table

I was able to attend a Round Table meeting. These meetings consist of a presentation that relates to a business owner. This particular one was on Quick Books. It was good; however, I am not at a spot where Quick books is a significant part of my life.

The excitement about the Round Table meeting was that I was able to give out business cards and recruit possible clients. There were a couple of women, who were excited to have some specific work done.

Second Attempt: Organizing the Data.

Here is another possibility for Georgia.  This one is geared toward the non techie.

Please list up to five personal/professional goals that you’d like to achieve during your time with CCC.
Improve my portfolio (generate work to add to my portfolio).
Keep my grades up.
Learn about the business side of graphic design.
Get more involved in the community (I would really like to learn more about some of the organizations that are in the civic center).
Build relationships and network.

How will your strengths help you in achieving your goals?
It seems like the goals are a good summary of some of my strengths and what I want to use them for but I will restate it angain…I love getting to know people and their stories. This may help with networking as well as the getting involved in the community. My artistic and creative skills will help with networking as well as building my portfolio.

Do you anticipate any hindrances? How will you address those?
I am curious to know how working for both WOW and WWBC and how that will play out. I am excited about getting more involved in the art gallery as well as being a liaison between the gallery and the campus. But at the same time WWBC will be a lot of graphics work without the gallery. I am not sure if I will be focusing on both equally or if it will be fairly well split.
I think I will handle it as it comes. I am not sure how big of part I will play in deciding on the exact roll of the position. I plan on getting involved in WOW either way. Both will offer positives.

What support do you need from AmeriCorps staff to achieve your goals?
I guess I would say that one of the things that I would like understanding with is how much time we are given in advance for the mandatory meetings, if they change or if there are some added. School needs to come first. The Monday night time works, but adding events in may need a good amount of warning.

What do you imagine your first few weeks at your service site will look like? First few months?
The first couple weeks should be fairly calm with the exception of figuring out the programs that I am not familiar with. The transition may be a little rough. It is difficult to find files and such. I do think this will get significantly better. This is the perfect time to start because it is a bit of a slow time.
I guess after these couple weeks it will get busier, but I will be more efficient and have a better understanding. Beyond this I am not sure. Overall it seems like there will be intense weeks and some slower weeks.

Week 2

I have a ton to work on this week. It seems a little overwhelming. I think once I get into the groove of the position and become more confident with Joomla it will go smoothly. I will soon begin working on Georgia’s project. Thursday I will be going to two meetings and photographing one.

This week is a bit stressful, I am just getting into the swing of things but will be attending meetings instead of working on the projects that I feel I should be working on. I plan on going in Friday to make up for, and finish, the time and get some extra work done.
